French caves are known for their prehistoric rock art, but did you know that surrounding those paintings are 26 symbols that appeared over and over again at French sites over a period of 25,000 years? These symbols didn’t just start cropping up in France, however. They are found all over the world - in the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia - suggesting that some sort of symbolic language arose with the early humans of prehistory and that perhaps certain civilizations made contact far earlier than originally believed. Put that in your linguistic pipe and smoke it.
